Graphical Abstract: The aim of the study was to modify the diatomite from Ghidirim village (Ribnita distinct, Republic of Moldova) with purpose to use it as filter material. The initial diatomite was modified by alkaline treatment with sodium carbonate, and the filtering capacity was evaluated by suction filtration method. The treatment of diatomite by sodium carbonate resulted in an increased filtration rate, recording the most pronounced filtering capacity for diatomite treated with 20% solution of sodium carbonate.

Abstract (PDF)
Graphical Abstract: A new material (DWCNT/iron oxide) for heavy metals removal was developed by combining the adsorption features of double-walled carbon nanotubes with the magnetic properties of iron oxides. Batch experiments were applied in order to evaluate adsorption capacity of the DWCNT/iron oxide composite for cadmium ions. The influence of operating parameters such as pH value, amount of adsorbent, initial adsorbate concentration and agitation speed was studied. The adsorption capacity of the DWCNT/iron oxide adsorbent for Cd2+ ions was 20.8 mg g-1, which is at the state of the art. The obtained results revealed that DWCNT/iron oxide composite is a very promising adsorbent for removal of Cd2+ ions from water under natural conditions. The advantage of the magnetic composite is that it can be used as adsorbent for contaminants in water and can be subsequently controlled and removed from the medium by a simple magnetic process.

Abstract (PDF)
Graphical Abstract:
This paper presents the study regarding the impact of the treatment with Câmpeni red petroleum on an eighteenth-century icon made of wood, with the aim of active preservation and restoration. In accomplishing this endeavour, there were applied non-invasive techniques of analysis based on optical microscopy (OM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) coupled with Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), micro-FTIR and colorimetry CIEL*a*b*. A series of chemical, physical-structural and mechanical characteristics of the wood were traced, in order to assess the degree of preservation enhancement as a result of the applied treatment.

Abstract (PDF)
Graphical Abstract:
Composite lignocellulose-inorganic sorbents derived from plant residues of agriculture and food industry, modified with ferrocyanides of d-metals and hydrated antimony pentoxide were prepared. Caesium and strontium ions removal from water was tested by radiotracer method. Sorption of heavy metal ions, methylene blue, gelatin, vitamin B12 was also studied.

Graphical Abstract: Growth of Methylococcus capsulatus (M) under different copper content in the growth medium has been studied. Excess of copper is sorbed in cytoplasm and on the cell surface. Growth of M. capsulatus (М) under copper-limited and copper-excess growth conditions is accompanied by increase of methanobactin secretion into the growth medium.

Graphical Abstract:
This article is devoted to the study of the mechanism of action of pesticides as compounds with a high complexing capacity for metals, nucleotides and enzymes. The sum of these effects is the cause of almost all diseases of modern man, and including - cancer. It is very necessary to ban the use of pesticides to save our world, ecosystems and human and the population health improvement.

Abstract (PDF)
Graphical Abstract:
The incidence and the type of acute chemical poisoning in Republic of Moldova during 2011-2015 were assessed. Records show 22458 cases of poisonings, including 919 death cases. The analysis of poisoning cases involving various types of chemical substances causing the intoxication reveals that the medicines-related poisoning accounts for the highest record of cases (6971), followed by alcohol poisoning, 6556 cases, gas poisoning is the third, with 1860 cases, and pesticide-related poisoning, with 707 cases. Age and gender characteristics of chemical poisonings and ways of exposure to chemicals are discussed.

Graphical Abstract: Adsorption of strontium ions from aqueous solutions on active carbons CAN-7 and oxidized CAN-8 has been studied. Obtained results showed that the adsorption isotherms for strontium ions from aqueous solutions are well described by the Langmuir and Dubinin-Radushkevich equations, respectively. The surface heterogeneity of activated carbons CAN-7 and oxidized CAN-8 has been assessed by using Freundlich equation.

Graphical Abstract: During of 2014 year, 60 soil samples at the point of 30 soil samples in the spring and 30 soil samples in autumn were taken from the locality of Fındıklı, Pazar and Sabuncular, where cultivation of green tea has been made in Rize (Turkey). The value of pH, organic matter content, and macro- and microelements amount were determined in sampled soils and the seasonal changes were investigated.
